TEZU, April 7 - With the aim to control malaria in malaria-prone Lohit district, the Department of health and Family welfare has organized a
training programme for community volunteers on Fever Treatment Depot (FTD) and Drug Distribution Centre (DDC) today here. Reports
DIPRO. Representatives of various NGOS and Health workers and Anganwadi workers,
members of District Vector Borne Disease Control Programme, Medical Officers participated in the
programme. The local MLA, K.Kri, announced that he would provide microscopes for
Sunpura, Loiliang, and Tezu hospitals from his MLA LADF for efficient diagnostic service of malaria cases.Emphasizeing the need of the
training programme aimed at control of malaria in the district , chief guest, MLA, Shri K. Kri, , Kri called upon all
sections of society, particularly, the Anganwadi workers to play active role in spreading
awareness among the people about malaria control activities in villages.
Kri, also appreciated initiative of DC, Lohit, P.S. Lokhande in promoting mass awareness on health, cleanliness and sanitation issues
among the people through publication of books and by producing a documentary film on health ,hygiene and sanitaion. He was also all praise
for Dr. Geiyi under whose initiative API rate of malaria has declined by 3 percent last year.
Deputy commissioner, P.S. Lokhande exhorted all officers to break free from their shackles of departmental barriers and stand united to serve
the cause of public health. Emphasizing on the role of Anganwadi workers in serving rural folks, the DC exhorted them to transform the society by
dedicated service. He also called upon teachers to act as agents of social change by co-operating in all social welfare and developmental
activities in rural areas.
Earlier, Dr. N. Geiyi, District Malaria Officer, announced that under his
department's endevour malaria cases in the district has declined by 3 percent during last
year. He also informed that his department would distribute impregnated mosquito nets in endemic settlements soon.
On the occasion DMO Dr. T. Darin, and Medical Suptt. Dr. P.K. Saikia, besides others also spoke and appealed all members to co-operate with the
department in malaria control programme.
Besides training on role of volunteers and control of malaria, treatment diagnosis etc. a documentary film called, " Churu Kalki Batte' a short
documentary film on heath and hygiene, produced by the Deputy commissioner, was exhibited in the programme, the report added.
