Changlang, Oct. 8th 2004:- Changlang district had witnessed a peaceful and successful conduct of Assembly Election yesterday. The voter’s turnout was excellent as the people enthusiastically exercised their adult franchise. However, Vijaynagar circle under Changlang District could not be covered yesterday as the polling parties did not reach the station on the prescribed time due to impeding weather condition. So the polling at three polling stations 25-Ramnagar, 26-Gandhigram and 27-Vijaynagar under Miao ST constituency were rescheduled for 8/ 10/ 04 by adjourned poll.
The polling parties sent through foot march could not reach the station till yesterday, hence the DEO Changlang, Shri Talem Tapok made alternate arrangements by sending a backup team comprising of polling parties through Pawan Hans helicopter, which landed Vijaynagar at around 1220hrs yesterday despite heavy downpour and bad weather. The commitment and boldness of the pilots were highly lauded by Shri Talem Tapok the Deputy Commissioner cum DEO Changlang who said that in spite of repeated attempts made by AN-32 Sortie, polling parties could not reach Vijaynagar. But by the sincere efforts made by Pawan Hans pilots, it was possible for the Vijaynagar people to exercise their Adult Franchise, said the DEO. Mean while, the polling at three stations at Vijaynagar have started and hopefully shall be concluded peacefully by the end of the day.
All round voting percentage of the district excluding Vijaynagar till 1600 hrs yesterday was:
1) 49 Bordumsa-Diyun Constituency :- 81%
2) 50 Nampong (ST) Constituency :- 81%
3) 51 Miao (ST) Constituency :- 74%
4) 52 Changlang South (ST) Constituency :- 84%
5) 53 Changlang North (ST) Constituency : 70%
No untoward incident was reported till time as the polling was concluded peacefully and successfully whole over the district.
