Agriculture department, Hayuliang in collaboration with ICAR, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Anjaw organized a day-long training on integrated farming system (IFS) and Vermi-composting under National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture (NMSA) at Chipru village under Chaglagam block on May 6.
Practical demonstration of vermin composting was conducted by S. Bhattacharjee, ADO, Hayuliang and Chogelum Kora, AFA, Hayuliang. This was followed by distribution of high yielding varieties of maize, paddy, pulses and vegetable seeds along with four numbers of poly house to the farmers.
Earlier, Dr. Tilling Tayo, Programme Coordinator in charge, ICAR, KVK Anjaw, highlighted the role of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Agri & Allied field. Dr. Tilling Tayo also delivered a lecture on the role of animal in integrated farming system.
Khelosa Talyo, ZPM, Chaglagam motivated the farmers to gather more information regarding integrated farming system and vermin-composting from ADO Hayuling and resource persons from ICAR, KVK, Anjaw. He further highlighted the schemes available under agriculture department and urged the participant farmers to avail the benefit under the schemes.
Er. Uday Bhandari, Subject Matter Specialist (SMS) Agri. Engineer, KVK Anjaw spoke on water conservation technology using different means viz. Jalkund, contour bunding and graded bunding. He asked the farmers to opt for Jalkund which is very easy to construct with the use of UV silpaulin to check seepage loss. Water store in the Jalkund can be used for irrigation, fish pond and livestock etc., Bhandari said.
Aniyang Ratan, Circle Officer, Chaglagam called upon the farmers to change their mindset and adopt scientific farming system for sustainable income generation instead of seeking for contract work. Altogether 90 farmers including farm women and rural youths attended the training programme.
